Jake is home!

Well Thursday was quite a fun and eventful day. We finally got to meet and bring home our puppy Jake. Although it was a long day, it went as well as we could have expected. We drove down to Chicago airport to pick him up from his flight landing around 130. He was very excited to get out of his kennel (which I did immediately after signing the paperwork.) Fortunately, there was a little grassy area just outside the terminal where we picked him up. We spent a little time here playing with him and getting to know him a little. He was quite an energetic little guy. Although when it was time to make the long trek to the car, I picked him up and was delighted to see that he was also quite the cuddler. We went a little ways in the car, then stopped for some lunch for us and Jake. He was very hungry! He went to the bathroom to my relief because we still had 2 hours left in the car. We went straight from there then to our vet to schedule his next shots, get him checked out, and pick up some flea and heartworm medication for him. The vet said he was "perfect!" He did a great job there and also got to meet some friends right away at the vet office! When we finally got home, Jake was really ready to play. He started doing laps around the living room furniture and looooves hiding under the kitchen chairs. The first night was slightly rough....on Jake (and on Katie). He did settle down though in a reasonable amount of time.

This toy is one of his favorites. Oddly enough its made out of fire hose :)

Yesterday we went up to my parents and he got to spend the day with my sisters dogs. Jake and Max got along great and I can see them playing together for a long time. Melvin was a bit more unsure and territorial. After Melvin had a few time outs for not playing nice (yes, the dogs get time outs) Melvin was much better around Jake. It might be a gradual thing for them. :) Last night was much better going to bed, he still whined for a bit, but after a visit of reassurance he settled down very well and slept until about 6 this morning! YAY! We'll see how tonight goes.

Jake is a very playful puppy, we are learning his personality quite quickly. He is using the bell to go outside already, he whines when he wants more water or wants to go outside. He has only had a few accidents in the house. He always wants to be by your side too. He will lay on the floor wherever you are standing, if you are sitting on the floor he will lay down next to you and make sure that he is in some way touching you at all times. He is very loving and energetic. He constantly is trying to (sometimes successful when we aren't quick) eat the tops of the fluffy dandylions. Sometimes he sleeps on his back like a human, its pretty funny!

Here are a couple pictures of our time with Jake thus far. If you go to the pictures site, using the link on the right of this page, there are TONS more :) We are heading down to the lake today to see how he likes that! We hope it goes well and he will be up for spending lots of time on the boat with us!
