11 things that keept it interesting last night on my 7p-7a shift in the Neonatal ICU....
1. My patient (35 week old premie) crashed 3 times (can't even describe this)
2. The nurses turned on the radio to listen to the WSU basketball game; but then had to scramble to turn it off when the nursing director made a surprise visit, haha.
3. 3 new babies delivered in 45 minutes ... BUSY
4. The vending machine ate my dollar....so i put another one in...ate that too.....YES i lost 3 dollars to a 60 cent pop machine....
5. Half way through the shift we received another sick baby....yes, he became my second patient
6. What could be harder than staying awake allll night long....trying to ROCK a baby to sleep in a DARK, QUIET room, hehe test of will power....i won --> he slept i didn't :)
7. I had about an hour of down time so my preceptor suggested i read a text book they had onhand.....yeah, ok that'll keep me awake at 3am
8. I got an IV into a 29 week old infant on the first attempt
9. i saw the first smile of a baby who has been in NICU for 5 weeks :)
10. A mom told me that my smile was the next best thing if her baby couldn't be with her
11. now im sitting in class for 5 hours...sweeeeet ...... BUT its friday!!
OOOOO HOW IM GOING TO LOOOOVE THIS WORK!!! :)
